Partnering for the Future
Strategic partnerships to combine resources and share expertise makes sense in the Victorian Water industry, where we are all working towards improved services and customer value for money.
To this end, Central Highlands Water and Western Water recently joined forces to renew aging sewer infrastructure, by partnering in the procurement process.
The successful joint procurement secured the expertise of Interflow, a leader in the repair, restoration and renewal of non-pressure pipelines and pressure mains across Australia and New Zealand.
Central Highlands Water Managing Director, Paul O’Donohue said, “Providing customer value for money, ensuring best work practice and minimising any impact on the environment were also key factors in the decision for the two water authorities to collaborate.”
“Ageing infrastructure is a challenge for all water authorities, so it seemed logical for us to partner with Western Water in order to make savings for our customers and reduce the capital risk for the business.”
“There is also a great deal our people can learn about the respective authorities’ processes and systems,” said Mr O’Donohue.
“Western Water Managing Director, Neil Brennan, said, “Some of the shared learning was a better understanding of how we could identify priority assets and reduce administration for all parties, especially construction contractors.”
Interflow Managing Director, Geoff Weaver, said, “Interflow is committed to partnering and working collaboratively with Central Highlands Water and Western Water on this exciting joint procurement contract.”
“This contract will not only provide both authorities with efficiencies through economy of scale, it will allow us to support local economic growth by using local resources and training local people as part of the delivery process.”
“We are well placed to meet Central Highlands Water and Western Water’s customers’ demands and expectations and to deliver these works safely, efficiently, on time and to a high standard consistent with Interflow’s standards and operational philosophy,” said Mr Weaver.
A key focus of both organisations is the enhancement of the customer experience. To promote this, the organisations are looking at different ways in which to engage with their communities. One example of this is to partner in the distribution of customer feedback cards.
The partnership will be signed by Central Highlands Water and Western Water Managing Directors, Paul O’Donohue and Neil Brennan in February 2018.
