Biosolids is the name given to sewage sludge produced during the biological treatment of sewage after it has been treated to a standard that makes it safe for further beneficial use.
The Environment Protection Authority provides written guidance in relation to the treatment of biosolids and its appropriate reuse applications. The authority requires all water corporations to work towards 100% reuse of biosolids.
We understand the inherent nutrient value of biosolids and work closely with our service providers to beneficially recycle all of the biosolids we produce each year, and to reduce historical stockpiles of biosolids over time.
We also maintain our knowledge of biosolids research and reuse opportunities by actively participating in specialist industry networks.
Central Highlands Water subscribes to the Australian and New Zealand Biosolids Partnership and currently chairs the Vic Water Biosolids Task Group.
Biosolids related enquiries should be directed to Central Highlands Water’s Wastewater and Reuse Co-ordinator.
