CHW Gains Waste Wise Certification
Central Highlands Water has received Waste Wise certification from Sustainability Victoria’s Waste Wise program.
The Waste Wise program, implemented in the Central Highlands region by Central Highlands Regional Waste Management Group, provides businesses with a framework for daily work practices to be undertaken in an environmentally responsible manner.
Central Highlands Regional Waste Management Group Chairman, Cr Stephen Jones, presented the Waste Wise bronze level certificate to Central Highlands Water last week.
“This Waste Wise certification recognises Central Highlands Water’s commitment to make a significant contribution to the environment by increasing awareness of sustainability issues and implementing sustainable practices in the workplace,” said Cr Jones.
As part of the Waste Wise program Central Highlands Water has developed, and is currently implementing a Waste Reduction Action Plan.
The Waste Reduction Plan will see Central Highlands Water increase their efficiency by focusing on reducing, reusing and recycling in their everyday work practices, enabling the authority to divert nearly 70% of their waste from landfill.
Central Highlands Water Chairman, Mr John Barnes says the authority is very pleased to receive the Waste Wise certification.
“Environmental leadership and environmental sustainability are integral parts of our vision and mission. We are excited to receive Waste Wise certification and are committed to continually improve our strong environmental performance,” said Mr Barnes.
