1000th Project Aquarius: Ballarat Home Water Refit today!
Project Aquarius: Ballarat Home Water Refit has reached a key
milestone with the 1,000th refit taking place today in Ballarat.
The project was launched by the Hon. John Thwaites in December
2006 and since refits began in February close to 1,500 appointments
have been made which is about twice the rate originally anticipated.
"We have been delighted with the response to Project Aquarius
and we would like to congratulate each of our 1,000 participants
who are now helping to save water, energy and money," said
Mr John Barnes, Chairman of Central Highlands Water.
"With the 1,000th refit completed today, an estimated 18
million litres of water has now been saved, leaving valuable water
in the reservoir for next summer," said Mr Barnes.
Mr Barnes said there were still about 3,500 opportunities to
be part of Project Aquarius and he urged residents of the Ballarat
& District Water Supply System to call and book without delay.
The refit is valued up to $180, but is being made available to
households for a net cost of just $30 following assistance from
Central Highlands Water and the State Government’s Smart
Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme. The refit service includes the
fitting of a three-star water-efficient showerhead, flow regulators
on internal taps, toilet flush control for single flush toilets
and the fixing of leaking taps or toilets. In addition the service
provides an in-home water audit and general water saving advice.
The refit helps residents save energy by reducing hot water use,
save money through reduced water and energy costs and help the
environment through reduced greenhouse gas emissions and reduced
wastewater discharges.
Residents of households in Ballarat & District Water Supply
System can call 1300 88 22 51 or 13 14 50 (for interpretative
service) between the hours of 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday,
exclusive of public holidays, to register or find out more information.
