Showerhead Exchange Program Saves Millions of litres of Water
The Maryborough Showerhead Exchange Program, has been hailed
a success with many hundreds of Maryborough residents exchanging
their old, less water efficient showerhead with a new three star
water-saving showerhead, saving millions of litres of water.
About 850 customers in the Maryborough Water Supply System participated
in the Showerhead Exchange Program, which collectively will save
over 11 million litres of water per year.
Central Highlands Water Chief Executive Officer, Mr Neil Brennan
congratulated the Maryborough community for the overwhelming positive
response to the Showerhead Exchange Program.
“The success of the Showerhead Exchange Program illustrates
that the Maryborough community is heeding the waterwise message
and saving water wherever possible, which is to be commended,”
said Mr Brennan.
Maryborough customers who participated in the Showerhead Exchange
Program and installed a three star water-saving showerhead have
automatically halved the amount of water they use in the shower.
Member for Ripon, Mr Joe Helper MLA thanked the Maryborough community
for their support of the Showerhead Exchange Program.
“Thanks to the fantastic local response to the Showerhead
Exchange Program many Maryborough households will now reduce their
water consumption by thousands of litres of a year,” said
Mr Helper.
Water efficient showerheads are one of the cheapest and most
effective ways to cut household water use with three star showerheads
using 9 litres of water per minute compared to standard showerheads
which use up to 20 litres of water per minute.
The Showerhead Exchange Program was conducted recently by Central
Highlands Water, in conjunction with the State Government and
Maryborough Rotary Club. The program was part of a state-wide
showerhead exchange program, launched by Water Minister the Hon.
John Thwaites in October 2006, which aims to distribute about
18,000 three-star showerheads to Victorian homes over the next
three years.
