Superpipe Project Remains on Track
The $180 million Ballarat link of the Goldfields Superpipe is continuing to be fast-tracked with the majority of the pipeline already laid and work progressing on the project’s three pump stations.
The pipeline from Bendigo to Ballarat will help provide a secure water supply for the Ballarat region, which is currently experiencing ongoing and unprecedented extremely dry conditions.
Central Highlands Water Managing Director, Mr Neil Brennan said the Corporation is thrilled that the project remains on schedule to commence operations at the end of June this year.
“We are delighted to have about 90 per cent of the project completed from a construction point of view after only nine months,” said Mr Brennan.
Construction of the three pump stations and tanks, which are a pivotal component of the project, is continuing with Victorian-based company CCB Envico expected to complete the construction works by mid year. The pump stations are located adjacent to Coliban Water’s Sandhurst Reservoir, north of the Wombat Forest at Yandoit and near the Midland Highway at Blampied.
With the majority of the pipeline already in the ground and work forging ahead on the construction of the pipeline’s pump stations the Ballarat link of the Goldfields Superpipe is on track for completion and operation by the end of June this year.
A pivotal component to the Ballarat link of the Goldfields Superpipe project was completed in September last year with the opening of the Goulburn-Campaspe link which connects Bendigo’s water supply to the Goulburn system.
The Ballarat link of the Goldfields Superpipe will connect to the Goulburn system at the end of June via its pipeline from Ballarat’s White Swan Reservoir to Bendigo’s Sandhurst Reservoir.
