McPherson's Printing heeds the waterwise message
Maryborough customers are heeding the waterwise message and introducing innovative water saving measures, in a bid to ensure they use less water and become as water efficient as possible.
Central Highlands Water Managing Director, Mr Neil Brennan says Maryborough customers are helping to ensure Maryborough's long term water security by developing their own individual water saving strategies as the entire community adapts to the ongoing and unpredictable drought conditions.
“More Maryborough customers than ever before have heeded the waterwise message and are now saving large amounts of water in their daily work practices, which is to be commended”, said Mr Brennan.
He says local printing business, McPherson's Printing Group, is a prime example of a business that is taking socially responsible action by developing an approved Water Management Action Plan to reduce their own water usage and ease pressure on the Maryborough District Water Supply.
McPherson's Printing Group has installed a recycling unit and is now recycling all water used to wash, rinse and cool aluminium printing plates for other uses in the printing process, as well as supplying water to toilet systems.
The recycling unit is expected to reduce McPherson's Printing Group's annual water consumption by half, saving about 4 million litres of water a year. In addition, McPherson's Printing Group will further reduce their annual mains water consumption by half by the end of the year by installing a series of rainwater tanks to capture stormwater, saving another two million litres of water a year.
McPherson's Printing Group's Maintenance Manager, Mr Robert Durbridge says it is important for their business to continue to save water wherever possible.
“As the Maryborough region continues to experience drought conditions, and as part of our commitment to sustainable development and total waste management, we are taking pro-active action to ensure our business uses water more efficiently,” said Mr Durbridge.
