Pipeline for Lake Wendouree Water Re-use Project Underway
Central Highlands Water has commenced construction of the pipeline which will deliver 600 million litres of treated re-use water a year from the Ballarat North Water Reclamation Plant to Lake Wendouree.
The pipeline is part of the $7M Lake Wendouree Water Supply Project which is being jointly funded by the State Government, City of Ballarat and Central Highlands Water.
Central Highlands Water Managing Director Mr Neil Brennan says the provision of 600 million litres of treated re-use water is one of the City of Ballarat’s alternative sources of water for Lake Wendouree and will account for approximately 20 per cent of the Lake’s annual total water inputs.
“As part of the Ballarat North Reuse Scheme Central Highlands Water will be providing an annual supply of Class A plus treated re-use water to the City of Ballarat to use as a supplementary water resource for the Lake,” said Mr Brennan.
The Lake pipe is approximately 1.6 kilometres long and 250 mm in diameter and will ensure that the re-use water and stormwater entering from Dowling Street will be dispersed across the main body of the Lake.
Associated works for the construction of the Recycled Water Plant are currently underway.
These works will ensure that the 600 million litres of treated re-use water will be available for the Lake by the end of 2008.
