Part II information statement

Under the Freedom of Information Act, Central Highlands Water is required to publish an information statement on its operations. The statement provides information on what we do, the kinds of documents we hold, and how a person can request access.

 

Organisation and functions (Statement 1)

Central Highlands Water is a regional water corporation providing high quality drinking water, sewerage, trade waste and recycled water services to customers in Ballarat and surrounding towns.

Formerly known as the Central Highlands Region Water Authority, it is one of 19 state-owned water businesses operating under the guidance of the Victorian Water Act.

Providing fully integrated catchment-to-tap-to-catchment water services, we collect, store, filter, disinfect and deliver water, and collect and treat wastewater.

Publications (Statement 2)

Central Highlands Water produces a large number of documents and records in the course of its work. We use an Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) to classify, store, access and manage a broad range of electronic and hard copy documents.

The types of documents that we handle include:

Information listed in Financial Reporting Direction 22D of the Financial Management Act 1994 is held at Central Highlands Water's office at 7 Learmonth Road Ballarat and is available on request, subject to the FOI Act 1982.

 

Rules, policies and procedures (Statement 5)

Central Highlands Water is required to comply with various pieces of state and federal legislation. As a government owned water corporation, we are bound by the Statement of Obligations issued by the Minister for Water.  We currently hold the following certifications:

  • AS 4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety
  • ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System
  • ISO 17025 NATA Accreditation

Under the Water Act, we can enact by-laws effective within our service area as required. Refer to the 'Policies and Governance' page of the website for further information.

 

Report literature (Statement 6)

We have a government-appointed Board of Directors that make high level decisions for the Corporation.

We publish an overview of each Board meeting which take place every 2 months, and the agendas for the upcoming meetings. Please refer to the 'Board of Directors' section of the website for this information.
