Kirks Reservoir Park is situated just a short 10 minute drive from Ballarat’s CBD and offers a beautiful retreat for people wishing to enjoy the stunning gardens, organise a picnic, or visit the Water Wise Garden and learn about the effective use of water and the environment.

Kirks Reservoir is a popular place to hold wedding ceremonies in the rotunda surrounded by the picturesque Kirks gardens; or have a barbeque with family and friends utilizing the great under cover barbeques and toilet facilities.

The Park also offers excellent learning opportunities for children and school groups with the Outdoor Education Centre. Here you can learn about the importance of water in our everyday lives.

The Water Wise Garden

The Water Wise Garden at Kirks Reservoir Park showcases water efficiency and effective garden planning within the Central Highlands region.

The gardens features include–

- A wide variety of common plants and flowers in various planting and watering conditions. 

- Eight zones which guide visitors through different water wise techniques. This allows visitors to review and adopt the techniques for your own garden and conditions.

- More than 2,000 plants from approximately 100 different species. This garden has proven to be a popular place for wedding ceremonies and other recreational events. Guided group tours of the Water Wise Garden can be arranged by telephoning (03) 5320 3157. Central Highlands Water Education Program

School and community groups who visit and become involved in the vibrant atmosphere and the centre’s activities will leave having learned much more about the vital importance of water in our everyday lives.

The Outdoor Education Centre overlooks the picturesque Kirks Reservoir Park and is a focal point for various educational and environmental tours.

Fully integrated water education programs are designed for local schools to compliment their SOSE and Science Studies.  Further information about the Outdoor Education Centre can be obtained by telephoning the Education Officer on (03) 5320 3157.

The Living Water Trail

This exhibit is a vibrant and fun tour of self-discovery where coloured frogs guide you through the environmental changes that occur in their Living Water Trail. Central Highlands Water along with other major supporters of water quality and catchment management demonstrate the consequences of human intervention through everyday living within the natural environment.
