New to the offer is the installation of CFL globes (excludes down lights). Energy efficient lights (CFL’s) use up to 80 per cent less electricity than standard incandescent light bulbs. This gives you a $16 per light globe saving, on refitted light globes, on your energy bill each year. Your household will be able to reduce total lighting costs whilst reducing carbon emissions.
The water element of the refit includes approximately $180 of water-saving services and a detailed home water audit. On offer will be water-efficient saving showerhead, 4 to choose from, flow regulators on internal taps, toilet flush control for single flush toilets and the fixing of up to 3 leaking taps. You will save an average of 18,000 litres of precious drinking water each year from the installation of a water-efficient showerhead and aerators.
For an initial outlay of $80 the Victorian State Government will provide a $50 rebate to each household who takes up the service under the audit component of the Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme. Therefore, the water and energy refit gives you over $250 of total value for only $30.

Frequently asked questions
Q - Can I choose the light bulbs?
A - Yes. The CFL’s are available in either edison screw (ES) or bayonet cap (BC) fitting, are either minispriral, spiral or slimline and come in warm white (Warm White – a warm candle like colour, similar to incandescent) or cool light (neutral colour, similar to office lighting tones). You can choose the different brightness levels to suit your individual preferences for each room.

15 Watts |
Interesting fact: 15 watt CFL (approx 730 balloons of Greenhouse Gas) = 75 watt incandescent (approx 3, 600 balloons of Greenhouse Gas)
Q- Why are CFL’s more energy efficient?
A- Older style incandescent light bulbs convert only 5% of their electricity use into light and a whopping 95% into heat, making them far less economical and energy-inefficient than modern CFL’s. ALSO each CFL last up to 10,000 hours, so you won’t have to change them as often!
Q- What if I don’t like the energy-efficient light bulbs? Can you come back and change them?
A – No, as the program is designed to assist households save money and help the environment by reducing the level of energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
Q - Who will come to my house?
A – Only fully trained, qualified and insured professional staff will visit and refit your water efficient fittings and energy-efficient light bulbs. They will also be able to show you many other ways of saving water, energy and money.
Q - Do I have to change my energy provider?
A - No.
Q - Can they change down lights?
A - Not at present.
Q – I have heard that CFL’s contain mercury, is this true?
A – Yes, All energy saving Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) contain trace amounts of mercury. Keep in mind that mercury is a toxic substance, so CFLs must be handled with care. Although CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, using CFLs is much better for the environment than using standard, energy hungry incandescent light globes. That’s because the mercury and carbon emissions CFLs prevent from going into the atmosphere, through a reduced need for electricity, far outweighs the mercury that’s contained inside the globes.
